Polestar Certified Pilates Instructor, NASM, FRCms
Classically trained by Grace Parra, Romana’s Pilates
The most profound work rarely looks like much from the outside - but it has a way of humbling you and building you back up - subtly, yet significantly, yielding a new and different type of strength.
Pilates is one of the ultimate embodiments of that - the work that looks the simplest is often the most profound. It's a practice that meets you exactly where you are, whether that means quiet, precise work close to the floor or pushing yourself to your fullest athletic capacity. That momentary shift — where the body and mind meet a resistance or release and both must rise to meet it — is what drew me to this work. I’m passionate about sharing that with every client I work with. I believe movement is deeply personal, and I meet each person where they are, helping them understand their patterns, build real strength, and develop a confidence in how they move that extends far beyond the studio.
My training began with Karyn Staples, PT, PhD, NCPT, and Brent Anderson, PT, PhD, OCS, of Polestar Pilates International. After earning my Polestar certification, I deepened my understanding of the classical method through a three year mentorship with Grace Parra , a Romana's-certified instructor. My education spans work alongside physical therapists, Rolfers, and massage therapists, and I hold a Personal Training Certification from NASM as well as a Functional Range Conditioning Specialist designation (FRCms) with Dr. Andreo Spina. I believe the teacher must always be a student, and I seek out and continue to train with some of the most respected classical Pilates instructors across the country.
Outside the studio, I paint large-format portraits, ride horses, hike and chase sunshine or a heated infrared light during the winter months.
A verse from scripture that often guides me is this: Galatians 5:25 — "Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit" — I believe that when we learn to move and listen with intention, we learn something deeper about how to live.

Barbara Babcock
Certified Romana’s Pilates Instructor
I started my Pilates journey after the birth of our fourth child. I loved the work and its positive impact on my health so much that I became a Certified Pilates Instructor with Romana's Pilates International in 2021. I hold a BS and MA in Education, so when I decided to leave the academic world in 2018, Pilates instruction made sense. In my life I have been drawn to helping people do or be better and cheering them on along the way. It is very rewarding to help a client gain flexibility or strength - or just leave feeling like their world is a better place because they feel good. That's what we all work for - to really improve peoples' day-to-day lives.
I believe in the Pilates Method because it has worked in my own body and mind. I have always been active, but my core was not strong and it was even weaker after having 4 babies. Something I have always loved was the feeling of getting into the movement and finding the focus needed to do it correctly. Pilates was a great stress reliever when our kids were young and I was working full-time as a teacher. My Pilates sessions were (and are) my time and I have always felt better after a challenging workout.
With my background in special education, I gravitate toward being more student-centered and focus on cognitive learning. I love learning and sharing new things with clients that work for their body on that day. The work of Pilates is as much mental as it is physical because it requires focus to physically complete the exercises correctly.
In my spare time, enjoy being with my husband, our 4 adult children and our 2 dogs. Since moving to the Greensboro Area in 2025, we are enjoying discovering all that makes the area great. We love to travel and go SCUBA diving when we are able. I was a figure skater and coach when I was younger and I love to get back on the ice when I can.
My favorite Joseph Pilates quote is, "Every moment of our life can be the beginning of great things." because it applies so well to my life. My hope is to continue to be the beginning of your Pilates journey at Authentic Pilates in Greensboro.
Kathe Ortiz
Beacon Classical Pilates Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training,
AFFAA, NASM Certified
Kathe’s journey into Pilates began through a deep appreciation for movement and its ability to create strength, balance, and confidence from the inside out. Drawn to the precision and intention of the classical Pilates method, she developed a passion for helping others feel more connected to their bodies through purposeful movement.
Her training includes a 500-hour Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program through Beacon Pilates, where she developed experience teaching across the full Pilates system, including reformer, cadillac, chair, barrels, and mat. She believes some of the most meaningful changes happen through consistency — through the quiet, disciplined work that gradually builds strength, awareness, and trust in your body.
Kathe approaches teaching with warmth, encouragement, and attention to detail, meeting each client where they are while helping them feel challenged, supported, and empowered. She believes movement is deeply personal and values creating an environment where clients feel welcome, capable, and confident in their practice, whether they are brand new to Pilates or refining a long-established one.
Originally from Costa Rica, Kathe brings a spirit of Pura Vida to her teaching — embracing movement, balance, and a joyful approach to wellness. Outside the studio, she enjoys exploring new towns, spending time with her dog, and finding beauty in the balance between faith, wellness, and everyday life.
She is guided by Joshua 1:9 — “Be strong and courageous” — and believes strength is built not only through movement, but through the way we choose to move through life.
